Kendrick Lamar ft. Dr. Dre - Compton

Posted 3 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Just Blaze
Album:

The Recipe and Swimming Pools (Drank) were singles; Kendrick Lamar‘s latest, on the other hand, feels like an event. The latest release off the Top Dawg fast-riser’s highly-anticipated debut set is a musical passing-of-the-torch set amidst the gritty, yet familiar (to the artists involved as well as to gangster-rap fans everywhere) streets of Compton, California. Just Blaze‘s majestic brass fanfare sets the mood as Lamar and mentor Dr. Dre pay homage to their mutual hometown, peppering their verses with geographical references for the locals and musical name-drops for the rest of us. And just in case you didn’t realize this cut is meant to be the new California Love, a Roger Troutman sound-alike busts out the talk-box on the record’s outro. Sure to leave fans in the West and beyond more amped than ever for Lamar’s debut set, Compton is but one of many bangers to be found on good kid, m.A.A.d city, due out October 22, via Top Dawg/Aftermath/Interscope Records.
