KiD CuDi - Perfect Is The Word

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Dot Da Genius
Album:
Wizard

When Lupe departed from hip-hop to record a post-punk LP as Japanese Cartoon, I was intrigued; when Weezy announced his intent to follow up critical and commercial blockbuster Carter III with a rock album, I was baffled; so, now that Kid CuDi‘s dropped off the first leak from his and Dot Da Genius’ ”experimental rock” project as 2 Be Continuum... yeah, I’m not terribly surprised. Though the script-flipping impact of Perfect Is the Word is diminished by the fact that CuDi never seemed to have a script to begin with, this droning banger’s familiarity shouldn’t diminish its appeal for the lonely stoner’s devotees. Here, Dot’s fuzzed-out guitar riffs, string flourishes and mechanical percussion rhythm set the stage for the Day N Nite phenom’s ominous pronouncements. In a delivery slightly less deadpan than usual, CuDi informs us of his affinity for living on the edge, declaring, “I won’t run away—cowards run away.” Time to weigh in: is Perfect, well, perfect? Or at least intriguing enough to have you looking forward to Wizard? If you’re leaning towards the affirmative, you can keep it locked you-know-where for all the latest details!
