Lupe Fiasco - SLR 3 (Round of Applause)

Soundtrakk

Last week, Lupe Fiasco offered a rejoinder to Kendrick Lamar‘s audacious Control verse on SLR 2, the sequel to a highly-acclaimed 2010 mixtape inclusion. While Booth readers stopped short of declaring Wasalu Jaco the winner of his and K. Dot’s de facto beef, y’all seemed to be in agreement that he had, at the very least, taken home the blue ribbon in the “response record” category. Today, he returns to take a lyrical victory lap on the freshly-released SLR 3 (Round of Applause). While this sequel’s promptness is surprising, to say the least, Lupe clearly hasn’t cut any corners in the record’s creation. On the contrary, his enthusiasm for rhyming radiates from every bar of his intricate, exultant verses, delivered over the majestic string/brass samples of Soundtrakk. Amid the lyrical pyrotechnics, he doesn’t neglect to throw in a plug for his forthcoming full-length, Tetsuo & Youth. If you’re craving more from the Windy City mainstay, keep it locked for further details on the as yet-unscheduled project, as well as any further loosies Lupe may liberate in the interim.
