Tyga ft. Rick Ross - Dope

Posted 3 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
FKi
Album:

Dr. Dre‘s 1992 debut solo single, Deep Cover, found a West Coast up-and-comer by the name of Snoop Doggy Dogg strapping up to commit “187 on an undercover cop.” Two decades and change later, Tyga resurrects the catch phrase, with a twist, on the lead single off his junior studio album. (No comment on whether this release is meant to bolster his street credibility after being, ahem, busted earlier this month.) Booth-approved beat crew FKi elect not to tamper too much with greatness on the production tip, accenting the aforementioned joint’s iconic bassline with a club-friendlier rhythm section. While Tyga and guest Rick Ross’ rhymes here are more swagger than gangster, they make sure to pepper their bars with plenty of references to the West Coast classics. Has the Compton representer done his G-Funk forebears proud? I’ll let y’all lay down the final verdict. Either way, we’ll keep you supplied with the latest jams leading up to the March release of Hotel California via YMCMB and Universal Republic.
